These are made by steaming whole oat groats and then rolling them flat.

They are also sometimes called old-fashioned oats.

Texture: Thicker and larger flakes.

Cooking time: Takes a bit longer to cook (5–10 mins).

Use: Ideal for porridge, overnight oats, baking (cookies, granola bars), etc.

These retain more of the grain’s texture and bite.
