Its the season of apples, so how about self baking an all organic apple crumble pie.We have put together a ready to use box for baking with all the necessary ingredients and portions that can make a pie for 10-12 generous servings.
HB ORGANIC BOX: Apples (1.5 kg), Whole wheat flour (3 cup), salt (1.5 tsp), brown sugar (1.5 cup), unsalted butter (1.25 cup), apple cider vinegar (1 tsp), cinnamon (4 tsp) along with a step by step guideline.
Add whole wheat flour (1+1/3 cup), salt (1/2 tsp), brown sugar (1/2 tsp) into a large bowl along with chilled unsalted butter (1/2 cup) and mix them till it forms a coarse meal. Mix ice water (3 tbsp) and apple cider vinegar (1/2 tsp) in a small bowl and drizzle over the flour to make a dough. Knead the dough into a ball and flatten to a disk.
Cling wrap and refrigerate for 30 mins.
Add flour (1 cup), sugar (3/4 cup), salt (1/2 tsp), cinnamon (1+1/2 tsp) into a large bowl along with chilled butter (6 tbsp) and mix them all till it resembles wet sand.
Keep it aside.
Mix all the ingredients (flour 2 tbsp, brown sugar 2/3 cup, cinnamon 2 tsp, melted butter 2 tbsp) and coat the apples slices evenly (1.5 kg apples, peeled and sliced - 1/4" each piece).
4. Final Pie
Preheat the oven to 200 degree. Line the round tin (with removable base) with butter paper. Take the dough (for crust) and flatten it to cover the tin base. Then spread the apple filling evenly on the crust, followed by the topping. Bake on 200 deg for 40 min and then reduce to 180 deg and bake for another 45 min.
Once baked, cool it and serve warm along or with ice cream.
