Pineapple Kew from Nagaland

Comes all the way from Nagaland. Kew variety is oblong in shape, slightly tapering towards the crown. Eyes are broad and shallow making fruits more suitable for canning. The fruit is yellow when fully ripe and flesh is light greenish yellow, almost fibreless, and very juicy with 0.6-1.2% acid. The fruit has 14-18 brix of sweetness and is very juicy.

These pineapples are known for its fibreless quality, high tss and very high juice content. The variety is also known for being easy to cut and slice and the skin is less thorny than the regular variety.

Taste Profile - This is the winter flush which is slightly less sweeter than the summer flush - still very tasty and juicy. Much sweeter than the market version.

Cost is on the expensive side primarily because of expensive logistics to get it from Nagaland. 

Will ripen in 3-4 days. To make it ripen faster remove the crown (green leaf part) and place it upside down at room temperature.

The region has been growing Pineapples for over 50years now. Molvum is very popular among Nagamese people as being the best pineapple growing regions.

In 2012 the farms were adopted by ICCOA - Indian Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture - to propogate organic farming - helping people with acquiring organic certification for their produce to make it worth their effort and to find markets all over India and abroad.

Since then the farm had been 100% certified organic and they grow close to around 8000 tonnes of certified Organic pineapples in the region. Almost 70% of the produce is consumed locally and among other sister states.

Did you know: that the lifespan of a pineapple plant is 7 years and even more interesting is the fact that the fruit is borne only after the 3rd year. Every year thereafter each plant produces only 1 fruit. 1 FRUIT PER PLANT PER YEAR, WOW!!!!
