Alfa alfa is from the legume family. It is eaten in sprouted form -immature shoots of the alfa alfa plant. Theyre known to be good source of protein, rich in VitK and VitC. Also contain Copper, Folate and Manganeese.
Make sure to wash them very well before use. They can be added in soups, sandwiches, stirfries, vegetable/daal dishes.
How to Grow alfa alfa sprouts at home:
- First, make sure to take a jar that is clean
- In the jar, add your alfa alfa seeds
- Rinse the seeds well in water.
- Lightly cover the jar & soak these seeds for about 5-6 hours in water.
- At the mouth of the jar, add a muslin cloth secured with a string/band.
- Drain all of the water.
- Keep it inverted, till the excess water drains out.
- Store jar in a cool and dry place for 3-5 days until it sprouts.
- Make sure to rinse both seeds and jar everyday with water, draining water completely
- When sprouting is done, then remove them with a spoon - transfer in another jar/box/zip lock bag.
- Store them airtight in the fridge.
- The sprouts stay good to consume for about 4-5 days.
